The Carrier Selected as LensCulture Editors’ Pick in Street Photography Awards 2026

Photograph The Carrier from Sharat Chowdhury’s project In Conversation with Dhaka has been selected as a LensCulture Editors’ Pick in the Street Photography Awards 2026.

I am pleased to share that my photograph The Carrier has been selected as an Editors’ Pick and featured in the LensCulture Street Photography Awards 2026 Competition Gallery.

The photograph is part of my ongoing visual project, In Conversation with Dhaka, which explores urban life, labor, movement, and the emotional textures of everyday experiences in Bangladesh. The project attempts to engage with the city not merely as a physical space but as a lived social landscape shaped by work, survival, memory, and movement.

The Carrier was photographed in a Dhaka fish market. The image follows an anonymous laborer carrying an oversized fish through traffic, bodies, and the density of everyday city life. What initially appeared as an ordinary moment gradually transformed into something visually symbolic — where labor, movement, and urban theater seemed to merge into a single frame.

The Carrier – a laborer carrying a large fish through a busy market street in Dhaka, selected as LensCulture Editors’ Pick in the Street Photography Awards 2026.

As someone working across anthropology, research, writing, and photography, I have increasingly become interested in how visual practice can function as another way of understanding social life. Photography often allows us to encounter moments that resist explanation and instead invite observation, emotion, and reflection.

I am grateful to LensCulture for the recognition and encouraged to continue developing In Conversation with Dhaka as a long-term visual journey.
